| 2011 Wisconsin Envirothon |
Thursday, Apr 21, 2011
The Envirothon provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about and compete on their knowledge of natural resources. The 2011 theme for Envirothon is salt and freshwater estuaries. Learning objectives, which cover over 50% of the state’s science and environmental education academic standards, are available to team leaders as a guide to facilitate the learning process and assist the team in their preparation for the event. The teams consist of five high school-aged students and they rotate between an oral presentation station and four outdoor testing stations in the areas of water resources, forestry, soils, and wildlife. Students learn, in real life context, the complexities of solving environmental problems while working as a team, enjoying the outdoors, meeting other students from across Wisconsin, and having a lot of fun!
Awards given at the state level include framed wildlife prints, station plaques and medallions. Awards given at the North American level include college scholarships and Canon products such as printers and cameras. A travel scholarship is given to the team that advances to the national Canon Envirothon.
Voluteers and sponsors are currently being sought. Contact Kirsten Moore for further information.
