The Wisconsin No Child Left Inside Coalition wants to help educators become more comfortable incorporating environmental education and outdoor learning into their teaching. Are you an educator that wants to incorporate more environmental education (EE) into your teaching, but aren’t sure how?

The Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education (WCEE) Resource Library wants to help educators discover the world of forestry! This is a great selection of resources for teaching about forests and forestry including K-12 teaching guides, videos, books for youth, web sites, and hands-on materials.

The quote: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has” by Margaret Mead, rang out loud and clear during a four-day “Leave No Teacher Inside” institute in August. A small group of dedicated educators from Wisconsin and Minnesota who are striving to change education came together at Beaver Creek Reserve in Augusta to learn about engaging students through environment-focused projects.

Join Windows to the Universe educators this fall for free 90-minute live seminars highlighting science content and classroom activities on topics related to climate change. Offered through the National Science Teachers Association, these seminars are a part of the NASA-funded Global Climate Change Educator Professional Development Network.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2010 School Forest Awards. These awards recognize individuals and organizations that have provided leadership for local school forests. LEAF (the Wisconsin K-12 Forestry Education Program) will recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to school forest programs. All nominations are due by September 17, 2010.

Teachers, naturalists, educators, and families will converge on Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center to learn, share, and network in October. Environmental education happens everywhere. No one knows that better than our keynote speaker Joseph Cornell, founder of the Sharing Nature Foundation. Early-Bird Registration due September 30, 2010.

The Journey South Program uses investigation of natural events and cycles to help teachers incorporate inquiry-based teaching and learning into the curriculum. Get started now... migrations are already underway!

WAEE’s awards program exists to recognize and encourage excellence in the field of environmental education. Nominations are being sought for the following awards: Earthguard, Student, Educator of the Year, Aldo Leopold, and WAEE. To nominate a candidate, class, or youth group, download the form, complete it, and return it to WAEE by September 30, 2010.

You are invited to participate in the Midwest EE Conference April 7-9, 2011 in Rochester, MN by submitting a presentation proposal focusing on Naturally Healthy solutions in today's world. Proposals due October 20, 2010.

September 22-24, 2010
This workshop is for Junior High & High School Science Teachers (Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Agriculture). Increase your knowledge of career opportunities in natural resources so you can promote them to all students who have the potential to succeed, including women and students of diversity. Registration is due by September 16, 2010.

Students sell energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs and earn $2.00 for every bulb sold. In the fall, students may also sell strings of LED holiday lights and earn $2 per string. Students learn about energy efficiency while earning money for their school, student organization, or club. Participation is limited so start planning your fundraiser today!

The exhibit space at the conference is already FULL! WAEE is excited to have so many wonderful exhibitors signed up already! WAEE apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause for organizations who still wanted to exhibit at the conference. WAEE hopes you will still join them by registering to attend the 2010 Annual Fall Conference, October 28-30, 2010.
