Wisconsin Maritime Museum

WELCOME ABOARD
Welcome to a great place to learn, play and explore the rich maritime history of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes region. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan in Manitowoc, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum offers visitors a unique place to spend hours learning about the sailors, shipbuilders and submariners who made that history, and to have some great family fun! The Wisconsin Maritime Museum is a leader in preserving the maritime history of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes region.

THE MUSEUM
With over 60,000 square feet of space, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum explores the rich maritime history of Wisconsin through exciting and interactive exhibits. A unique collection of model ships and boats, an operating steam engine, displays of historic vessels and marine engines, and the Wisconsin Waterways and Little Lakefarer's Rooms – special places for children of all ages to learn and play. Browse our web site to learn more about the Museum, then come visit us and discover how fun history can be!

THE SUBMARINE
Get an up-close look at life in the "silent service" by touring the World War II submarine USS COBIA. Begin your visit to the USS COBIA in the COBIA Interpretive Center. Hi-tech exhibits and a multimedia theater will help you learn about the six war patrols of COBIA, the important role that US Navy submarines played in World War II, and how Manitowoc came to build 28 submarines during the war. Explore more exhibits and look through the periscope of a Manitowoc-built submarine in the USS RASHER Concourse before stepping onboard COBIA.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
The Wisconsin Maritime Museum offers 20 different school programs that cover maritime related subject matter in science, social studies, and environmental education for students from pre-school through high school.  Visit our website for a detailed description of those programs, and then call our Educator to set up a visit with your students!
