Wisconsin Envirothon


Wisconsin's ultimate high school and middle school environmental science challenge. Use Envirothon learning objectives throughout the school year to enhance your environmental science or FFA curriculum. Then, enroll a team in Wisconsin Envirothon for a day of field challenges, team presentations, and high school teams have a chance to win Canon Envirothon, North America's largest high school environmental education competition!

News & Information
Events Teams of five high school or middle school students participate in four hands-on field challenges designed by natural resources professionals and educators. Learning objectives cover aquatic ecology, forestry, soils and land use, and wildlife. In addition to field challenges, students create team presentations regarding an annually rotating current issue. The 2012 issue is "Nonpoint Source Pollution and Low Impact Development."

The high-school team that wins Wisconsin Envirothon advances to Canon Envirothon for a week-long North American challenge and chances to win scholarships and Canon products.

Wisconsin Envirothon is a program of the Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Association (WLWCA), and a member of Canon Envirothon. Nine high school teams and six middle school teams participated in the 2012 Wisconsin Envirothon on Friday, April 20 at Central Wisconsin Environmental Station (CWES) in Amherst Junction. Congratulations to Luxemburg-Casco High School and Island City Research Academy for winning first place in the high school and middle school categories.
Congratulations to Middleton High School for taking eighth place at the 2011 Canon Envirothon and first place in the Wildlife category. Each student earned $1200 in higher education scholarships. The top 15 teams who earned scholarships included (in placement order): Manitoba, Ontario, South Carolina, New Brunswick, Connecticut, North Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin, Florida, Rhode Island, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Nebraska.
Congratulations to Kirsten Moore for being elected by her 54 international peers at Canon Envirothon to serve on the Canon Envirothon Board of Directors for a three-year term as secretary, overseeing the North American competition and its staff.

MissionShow Details
The mission of the Canon Envirothon is to develop knowledgeable skilled and dedicated citizens who have an understanding of natural resources and are willing and prepared to work towards achieving and maintaining a balance between the quality of life and the quality of the environment.

The Envirothon mission is accomplished by developing in young people an understanding of the principles and practices of natural resource management and ecology and through practice dealing with complex resource management decisions.

Cost of Programs/AdmissionShow Details
The cost for one high school or middle school team of five students plus one team advisor to participate in the day event is $120. Additional fees apply for extra guests, alternate team members or optional lodging.

Student teams are exposed to scientists and experts in the field who coach and guide their learning experience. The Envirothon is more than a competition. Together with teachers, schools and professionals, we help develop knowledgeable citizens who can make informed decisions that affect the quality of life in our communities. Ultimately, we are creating new leaders who will provide the vision for our future and well-being.
